Disabled Riders Does the freedom of the open road call to you?
During the first week after a month in ICU after my plane crash due to engine failure, while I was still lying on my back and had never yet gotten up into wheelchair, I decided if I was going to be paralyzed, then I was going to just need a wheelchair accessible airplane and motorcycle. I did not know much then but it did not seem like such a leap of possibility to design and build a motorcycle or even airplane you can simply roll your wheelchair up into.
The Road Chariot and Sky Chariot were born, while I mentally worked out the details and problems creating conceptual designs in my mind during that first week. Over the years since I have collected information, photos, videos, absorbed other good ideas and spoke to other enthusiasts sharing my ideas and encouraging them. I especially have a soft spot in my soul for the rigs I have seen welded together from 150 cc motorcycles in Mexico in other developing countries.
Right now there are no less than 3 commercially available wheelchair accessible motorcycles in the United States many more spread around other parts of the world. Not to mention hard-core motorcycle clubs filled with disabled motorcyclists.
The goal of this site is to bring those products, designs, ideas, and people together and push the envelope. I think of myself as someone who flicks Pebbles. But one pebble knocks loose another pebble, and another and soon a landside follows. One pebble no one notices, a landslide however changes vistas, perspectives and gets attention. By reading this you have just become one of my Pebbles. Go, share, and knock loose a few more!
